The Connected Universe of Films from Tom Williams, know as
THE CONTINUUM
When I first started writing films, I was just a teenager with a wild and vivid imagination. My earliest film ideas were so completely mad that the only way to physically make them would have been to either have billions of dollars at my disposal and invent entirely new cameras and lenses to capture them, which could have taken years of research or learn how to animate.
In an attempt to rein in my ideas and stop them from spiralling out of control, I created “The Continuum”.
At the time, connected universes were becoming increasingly popular, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe paving the way for that kind of storytelling.
I gave “The Continuum” a set of rules to follow, so that whenever my ideas started getting out of hand, those rules would ground them and remind me to focus on story and substance over style and cool visuals.
That is why this project and this connected universe exist. Not for nerds ten years from now trying to figure out what every cameo means, but to help me stay grounded as a writer while having a bit of fun with worldbuilding.
That said, I hope you are one of those nerds who enjoys this sort of thing. I love you all the same if you are, and hopefully, it gives you some inspiration to help you cope with your ADHD in the future.
